So we’ve talked about how to work on strength and speed, and those are great things, but how do we apply them? What is the point of being fast and strong? In a word, efficiency.
It takes more effort from someone who is not strong or fast to generate the same amount of power than someone who has trained to use their bodies more efficiently. However, that’s not the efficiency I am talking about. What I am talking about is the ability to end a fight as quickly as possible, doing the most amount of necessary damage in the least amount of time.
Applying strength and speed to your strikes is great, but if you have seen any sort of combat match, you know that just hitting someone is insufficient. Where you hit is just as, if not more important. You need to apply your strength to a specific target with a speed that your opponent has no time to react to. Depending on what you hit, it could end the fight right then and there. There are many who say this isn’t possible, but if someone gets punched in the throat full force, I can guarentee you that crisis of breath will have them thinking twice about continuing the conflict. A mental victory over your opponent is just as strong as a physical one and you have avoided unnecessary violence. A big win in my book.
That said, don’t rely on one hit knockouts. They don’t happen often and some people are just too stubborn to give up. Just make sure to apply your strength and speed to the proper area so you don’t waste your own energy and you can do whatever is necessary to end the fight.
