This week’s word is Fearless, a direct opposite of fear. Or is it? Many people who do things that are considered above the norm, like firefighters, military and police, daredevils, stuntmen, etc., all seem to have one thing in common. They are considered fearless. Having no fear. Ask each one of them and they will most likely tell you the same thing. They are actually very afraid.
The difference is, they choose to take that fear and turn it into something that can work against the fear. Something that allows them to achieve what is otherwise considered difficult or even impossible.
It is this mindset that allows a martial artist to achieve greater success in practice and if he or she is called upon to use their skills to defend themselves or others. Fearlessness allows us to step beyond the fear and act as necessary to the situation. Choose to act rather than let the action choose you.
