Dependable. Like this word of the week post every week. While it may not always be on time, it is always there. Many people who are considered responsible are also considered dependable. Others can rely on them to do the things required or asked of them. No matter what. It is a matter of trust in that person’s willingness to be there, to be present in the situation and do what is necessary.
As martial artists, we depend on our instructors to have our best interests in mind when they show us the techniques of our arts. The instructors rely on us to show up to class ready to learn and having had practiced the things we had learned before. A foundation of trust and loyalty is formed when a person shows themself to be dependable and with that, they are given more to be responsible for, with others knowing that the person can be relied upon to take care of whatever it is they are given to handle.
When someone depends on you, be there. Be present. Give them your all. In return, you can expect the same from them. Even with all that however, remember one thing: you must also learn to be dependable to yourself. Once you become an adult, you are responsible for you. No one else. Be dependable to yourself. Be there when you need to take care of yourself. Be present in every moment of your life. It’s much more enjoyable that way.
