“Most people fail not because of a lack of desire but because of a lack of commitment.” Vince Lombardi
Commitment is the action you put into a decision. Often times, it is the measurement of how much you want something. The more you put into it, the more you want it and conversely, the more you get out of it.
Martial artists are some of the most committed people. They go into their arts knowing that they will not be finished any time soon because martial arts are a lifelong commitment. It is something you have to want to do for the rest of your life to get anything out of it. This holds true for many things in our lives: relationships, work, hobbies and of course, martial arts.
Commitment is difficult. We have many different things pulling our attention, time and energy in many different directions, so it is a matter of being able to choose the things you are most committed to, the things that are most important to you. In our schools we teach that family is always first, school and work second and martial arts third. Take some time to really think about what you are most committed to and you may find that some things that may not be as important to you will help you destress as they fall away, giving you more energy to focus on what is really important.
