Our word this week is Strive and with Perseverance, they go hand in hand. A quote:
“Always remember that striving and struggle precede success, even in the dictionary.”
– Sarah Ban Breathnach
In essence, you have to understand that success is usually hard won. While this is not always the case, as martial artists it is almost always true. The harder you work and the more you practice, the more successful you will be, whether it is at a certain technique or for your testing or everything in between.
The key is finding the reason to strive. Simply to get better at something is enough for some at first, but as things get more difficult, that reason may not work out so much. You may have heard the phrase “to dig deep “. That applies here because when you are on that 99th pushup and your muscles simply refuse to move, there is only one thing stronger than your mind telling you to give up and be done. That is your reason. Why do you need to hit that 100? What are you striving for? For me, it was to not just get better, but to be better for myself. In knowing I can be better, it drives me to continue to strive to get better. Something to think about when you feel like you just can’t do one more…
