It is said that mankind’s greatest fear is the Unknown. The things that lie just past our ability to understand, which encompasses quite a lot. For every bit of knowledge we acquire, we gain many more questions. Sometimes, those questions hold us back. They keep us from moving forward. What if I’m not fast enough? What if I haven’t practiced enough? What if I don’t pass this test? What if I’m not good enough?

The thing is, most of our greatest achievements happen because a person is able to overcome that fear and try something anyway. Think about this: What if Henry Ford never attached an engine to a carriage? What if the Wright Brothers never attached wings to bicycle parts? What if Alexander Fleming decided not to let that bread mold?

While fear of the unknown is healthy, having a respect for it is even healthier. Understanding that we will never know without trying is an important lesson. Take the test, push your limits, see what you are truly capable of. Use what you already know and become better at understanding that many of your limits are only in your mind.
