Olarom (Welcome)!
It may or may not be a well known secret around these parts, but the owner of this website and the school and some of its members follow the teachings and philosophy of the Mandalorians. Yes, the ones from Star Wars. While they are a fictional group of people with some very interesting and diverse history, some of their core philosophies and beliefs have been adapted from real life warrior cultures from here on Earth. While our main focus is on Chinese Martial Arts and their beliefs, in our Combatives class, we use the Mandalorians as a base to work from, and the ability to adapt to the needs of all that want to come and learn with. With that said, on Mondays I hope to start teaching some of the philosophies of the Mandalorians, so that you can see where we are coming from, as well as the language itself, as created by Karen Traviss for her series of books, Star Wars: Republic Commando. Today’s lesson is on the Resol’Nare or, Six Actions. These are the base rules that all Mandalorians must follow to even be considered Mando’ade (Mandalorian).
Resol’Nare Poem
Bajuur, beskar’gam, (Education, Armor)
ara’nov, aliit, (Self defense, clan)
mando’a bal manda’lor (language, leader)
an vencuyan mhi. (All help us to survive.)
- Bajuur (Education)- In order for Mando’ade to survive, you must teach your children and those who join your clan the ways of the Mandalorians.
- Beskar’gam (Armor)- Even though no one usually wears the armor in public unless they are part of a costume group, it is vital that all Mandalorians have some form of armor that they wear and maintain.
- Ara’nov (Self Defense)- You aren’t Mandalorian if you can’t fight.
- Aliit (Clan)- Your clan is your family and your family is your clan. Period.
- Mando’a (Language)- Learn it and use it so all Mando’ade know you for who you are.
- Manda’lor (Leader)- The leader of all Mando’ade or the leader of your aliit. Either way it is imperative that you look up to them as a guide and as protectors of the clan. It is imperative they keep the clan and all Mando’ade best interests in mind.
All help us to survive. Thank you for checking us out and there are lots of resources online about living the ways of the Mandalorians. Later on, I will post links, but for now, I hope I have given you an insight into our ways.
