Mando’a Monday, Lesson 2

Pronunciation..

While most of the words in Mando’a are fairly easy to figure out, some have a very different sound than that used in Galactic Basic (English). I will try to point these out as the words come up, but one of the most common the letter combination ‘yc’. This is pronounced with an ‘ish’, such as the word for also, balyc, pronounced ‘bay-LEESH’.

Here are a few common words and phrases:

Yes- Elek (e-LEK)

No- Nayc (NaySH)

Hi- Su’cuy (Soo-COO-ee)

Hello- Su’cuy gar (Soo-COO-ee GAR)

Bye- Ret’ (RET)

Goodbye- Ret’uryce mhi (Ret-uri-SHAY MEE)

We’ll stick with these six for now, as it is an important number to Mando’ade. Practice these and you will be on your way to becoming part of one of the most respected cultures known to man. (That is hearsay, but it should be a fact.)
